No. v2.0 is fully backward-compatible with v1.0. The plugin detects both the old _wpwo_webp meta key (v1) and the new _wpwo_optimized meta key (v2), so all previously converted images are correctly counted and skipped during bulk optimization. No re-conversion needed.
Never. WP WebP Optimizer creates sidecar files alongside your originals (e.g. photo.jpg.webp). Originals are always preserved. With "Backup Originals" enabled (default), a protected copy is also stored in /uploads/wpwo-backups/ before the first optimization, letting you restore any image with one click.
No. Everything runs entirely on your own server using PHP's Imagick or GD library. There is no external API, no monthly subscription, no usage limits, and no image quota. One-time purchase — use it forever on the licensed number of sites.
Yes. v2.0 specifically addresses Elementor compatibility. The image delivery hooks are now registered at the init action (instead of plugins_loaded) and are automatically skipped when Elementor's editor, preview, AJAX calls, or REST API requests are detected. This prevents the fatal TypeError that affected v1.0 with Happy Elementor Addons' Slider widget.
AVIF requires Imagick compiled with libheif support, which is not included on many shared hosts. Check availability instantly on the Tools page. If AVIF is not supported, the plugin falls back to WebP automatically. AVIF is optional — WebP alone still provides 35% average savings.
Deactivating leaves everything intact. If you delete the plugin via WordPress admin, the uninstall script safely removes all plugin options, post meta, and custom database tables. Your original images and WebP/AVIF sidecar files remain on disk untouched. There is no data loss.
Lower the Batch Size setting (Settings → General → Batch Size) to 1–2 on restricted shared hosting. Also increase Max Execution Time to 60s under Settings → Advanced. The bulk optimizer uses AJAX with pause/resume support — you can safely pause, wait a few minutes, and resume without losing progress.
